Holy Name sponsors
basketball teams for girls that play in a competitive
league in Brooklyn called the Brooklyn Children's Basketball
Association (BCBA). The teams are for grades 3 through
10 (ages 8 to 16). They generally play a 16-game schedule
with games starting in early November and ending in late
February, followed by playoffs in March. They play half
their games on Sundays at Bishop Ford High School (19th
Street & Prospect Park West) and the other half of the
games at different gyms located around Brooklyn. There
is also a Clinic for grades 1 & 2 (ages 6 and 7) that
starts in November and runs through the end of February.
This takes place in the basement of Holy Name School on
Saturday mornings. This is strictly for instruction and
fun. Registration is generally the second Saturday after
Labor Day. Teams practice once a week at various public
school gyms. All uniforms must be returned at the end
of the season. |

The AAU Girls
Basketball Program is organized to initiate, stimulate
and improve opportunities for amateur girls basketball
competition at both the local and national level. Girls
ages 9-18 play nationwide on over 600 teams in 9 age-
group divisions. The teams compete for to qualify for
the AAU National Championship Tournament and the National
Invitational Championships. Teams in the Metropolitan
Association (New York City and the surrounding region)
compete in tournaments, usually held on weekends, in and
around the New York area and the East Coast region throughout
the season. There are dozens of AAU affiliated girls basketball
teams in the New York City area. Each team organizes its

Reebok Urban Youth Tennis
Academy. Tryouts are held mid-May at USTA National
Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens, and are open
to all NYC residents ages 8-17. Fifty players will be

If selected, players receive free advanced coaching at
the USTA National Tennis, free tournament entry fee sponsorship
for selected events, free travel expenses to selected
national junior tournaments, free Reebok clothing and

in elementary school through college. Girls compete at
five different distances, plus hurdles and the high jump.
Registration is in December. Competitors participate in
four preliminary meets and a semi-final meet at Pratt

Sundays (depending on age) for five weeks from late December
- January. Finalists compete for trophies and educational

The mission of the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club is to
provide educational, recreational and guidance services to New

factors are most in need of its services. The Club serves over
19,000 children annually in 8 clubhouses throughout New York
City and a sleep away camp in Kingston, New York. All Club members
have access to tutoring, homework assistance and youth development

National Youth Sports Programs (NYSP)
Offers six-week summer camp to 250 boys and girls ages 10-16.
The camp includes instructional sports activities in basketball,

The YMCA of Greater New York is a non-profit community service

From its 1852 beginnings in New York, it has grown to 20 Centers
providing health, wellness, recreational and educational programs
