Pillars of our community like Yolanda Jackson, Founder & CEO of Yolanda Jackson & Associates, have been a part of our journey, notably connecting elite athletes to our mission and contributing to Celebration. For her, sports has always been a thread in her fabric, woven into her life in a multitude of ways.
“I have been involved in sports all of my life. It has taught me how to win and lose and how to work a member of a team. I was very good at sports and competed in many different ones, both individual and team, from an early age. As an adult I converted that love of sports into a career working with elite, Olympic, world-class champion female athletes.”We know New York City, the nation, and the world are full of stories just like Yolanda’s – illustrating sports has been a vehicle for learning life lessons and a pathway to success.
Now more than ever, PowerPlay’s work matters. Not just for the current generation of girls and young women, but for future generations.
“I would like to see more women in decision-making positions in the media so that female athletes will get the coverage they deserve. I would like to see female athletes compete on an equal basis with men especially when it comes to compensation and marketing opportunities. And, finally, I would like to see women as owners, general managers and coaches of major men’s leagues, and an increase of women in these roles in the women’s leagues.”
