After sharing her sincere and personal backstory, Elle the SheChef assured us, the young women of PowerPlay, that any goal could become a reality through hard work and dedication. Her charismatic and high-energy helped us see that dreams are not intangible, but just a first step to success and achievement. Elle’s sense of humor and warm-heartedness touched us and opened the eyes and ears of every single person in the classroom. She prepared for us a couscous salad that was simple, affordable, healthy, and delicious. Who knew that food could be all of those things? The dish was an intriguing mixture of couscous, berries, oranges, orange juice, vanilla paste, honey, and mint (many of the the ingredients could vary based on preference and imagination). Elle stressed the importance of budgeting and its impact to our lives, especially in the future. The whole class was baffled when she announced that each serving costed under a dollar due to her expert budgeting. All in all, we learned that fresh produce, grocery lists, homemade food, budgeting, and loving our bodies are all components to living a healthy and happy life.
