Becoming a peer coach has changed my life and the way I see things. Not only did I change as a person, but I improved on ways that would allow me to become a better inspirational figure. Talking with the girls, I realized how important it was for them to have a person they could look up to and feel safe around. I wanted to be that person and throughout my experience, I was able to gain their trust and respect. Although I wasn’t their coach for a long time, I know I will never forget them, and I am forever grateful for all the joy they have brought me in the past months.
During this experience, I was able to learn from my wonderful coach, Jeanine, and work with girls I have never met before. It made me realize all the difficulties that came with working with children and while it was hard, my coach helped me along the way. I gained many valuable life experiences and developed many skills like leadership, public speaking and empathy. I have grown so much through this experience. I went from being intimidated to leading my own lesson with the girls. I truly believe everyone should step out of their comfort zone and try something like this.
