PowerPlay Junior Board’s “Girl Power Day” at PS 2

Before our city and country realized the severity of COVID-19 and social distancing became mandated, PowerPlay’s Jr. Board hosted a special activation with 44 participants at PS 2 in honor of Women’s History Month on Tuesday, March 10th, supporting Powerplay’s mission to advance the lives of girls through sports.

The girls were greeting with posters with powerful words of affirmation written on them which created a space for them to express how ‘COMMUNITY’,’EMPATHY’, ‘SUCCESS’ and ‘PURPOSE’, empowers them. These words were specifically chosen to align with PowerPlay’s strong Social-Emotional-Learning capacities that participants are development in.

The girls explored the ‘Power of Play’ with games such as kickball, netball and sharks and minnows which encourages teamwork, health and wellness.

While words of affirmation and encouragement were spread throughout the gym, the event ended with each girl receiving her own personal affirmation card, and had the opportunity to create one as well – a constant reminder that she is Worthy, Valuable, Appreciated and Loved.
