Debuting on March 6th, STARS CGI joined forces with Nike in an explorative celebration of self-care for your minds, bodies, and souls! Our Self-Care Saturday event presented six engaging workshops by our ten partner organizations, designed to inspire new self-care habits via our unique event web page. The web page remained open for the entire month of March and attendees received both registration and post-event self-care kits!

“Let Your Light Shine”: Connected participants to their inner selves through a calming and centering yoga exercise.  Consisting of breathwork, gentle stretching, and guided mindfulness techniques to release stress, our workshop helped with creative blocks and supported focus! By establishing quiet and sacred time for one’s self, you are honoring the true essence of your own unique spirit.

Hosted by PowerPlay + Lower Eastside Girls Club

“Caption This-Art and Liberation”: Allowed participants the space to get creative and learn about Black Feminism, Black Feminists and think critically about what Black feminism means to them in their own personal identities and experiences. “Caption This” empowered youth as they learned how to integrate these concepts through the power of written and visual art.

Hosted by Girls for Gender Equity (GGE)+ Groundswell

“ZOOMba”: Got our participants moving and grooving in a fun, interactive Zumba session, emphasizing the importance of enjoyable physical movement. In Zoomba, FSH helped get you off the couch and back into your heart and body.

Hosted by Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH)

“Guide to Intersectional Feminism”: Guided participants through a lesson on intersectionality and principle Black Feminist concepts to combat the racial equity gap. This workshop worked to establish familiarity with black feminist theory and delineation of the distinction between white fear (loss of power) and black fear (loss of life).

Hosted by Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI)

“A Letter to Your Future Self”: Inspired attendees to compose a letter to their future selves based on Amanda Gorman’s inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb” and its forward-looking, hopeful nature. Participants learned the value of letter-writing and journaling as form of self-expression.

Hosted by Girls Write Now + The Armory Foundation + Sadie Nash Leadership Project

“Row & Glow”: Focused on getting our bodies pumped up and energized, this youth-led workshop engaged participants in an intensive full-body workout. In rowing, we train rigorously for strong minds and bodies as both are equally necessary for success.

Hosted by Row New York
